Lagos to Host Inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival

Lagos State is prepared to host the first National Intermediate Sports Festival from October 1 to 15, as assured by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor made this announcement on Saturday via X while inspecting rehabilitation works at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, one of the venues for the festival.

The National Sports Commission awarded Lagos the hosting rights for this inaugural event, which aims to foster grassroots sports development and help young athletes identify and hone their talents. Sanwo-Olu stated that between 14,000 and 15,000 athletes are expected to participate, with facilities such as Rowe Park and various sports centers across the state being utilized.

He highlighted ongoing renovations at Teslim Balogun Stadium, including major reconstruction of the main bowl and upgrades to the football pitch to FIFA standards. The tartan track is projected to be completed within four to six weeks, ensuring readiness for the festival.

This event represents a significant opportunity for Lagos to enhance its grassroots sports initiatives.
