Lagos Prepares for Inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State announced the state's preparedness to host the first National Intermediate Sports Festival, scheduled from October 1 to 15. The National Sports Commission awarded Lagos the hosting rights, and approximately 14,000 to 15,000 athletes are expected to participate.

During an inspection of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Sanwo-Olu reviewed the rehabilitation of various sports facilities, including the main football and athletics arenas, the indoor sports hall, the volleyball court, and the swimming pool. He noted that the main bowl of the stadium is undergoing major reconstruction, with the football pitch being upgraded to FIFA standards and natural grass already installed.

The tartan track is expected to be completed within four to six weeks. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of completing these facilities on time, as the event presents an opportunity to enhance grassroots sports development and encourage young athletes to remain in Nigeria.
