Lagos Records 33,009 Domestic and Sexual Violence Cases

The Lagos State government reported 33,009 cases of domestic and sexual violence between September 2021 and July 2026, with domestic violence comprising the largest share at 13,515 cases. The figures were disclosed by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, during a media event to kick off the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

Pedro, represented by the executive secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, noted that the agency received these cases through physical walk-ins and its Virtual Referral and Response Service, averaging over 300 clients monthly. Other reported cases included 1,171 defilements, 797 child abuse and physical assault cases, 420 rapes, 428 sexual harassment incidents, and 100 cases of sexual assault by penetration.

Additionally, there were 323 threats to life, 79 attempted rapes, 95 instances of technology-facilitated sexual and gender-based violence, and 1,861 family-related disputes.
