Lagos AG Lawal Pedro Calls for Collective Action Against Gender Violence

Lawal Pedro, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, stated that the fight against gender-based violence cannot be solely the government's responsibility. He urged individuals, families, professionals, religious and traditional leaders, and institutions to take action in preventing abuse and supporting survivors.

Pedro, represented by Folashade Anibaba-Bossman, the ministry’s Director of Advisory Services and Judicial Liaison, spoke at the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month Commendation and Award Night, where the Lagos State Government honored various individuals and institutions for their contributions to combating gender-based violence. He highlighted the importance of ongoing commitment beyond the campaign month, asserting that societal tolerance for violence must be re-evaluated.

Pedro acknowledged the efforts of lawyers, police officers, healthcare professionals, and civil society organizations in supporting survivors and strengthening the justice system, emphasizing that every intervention counts in preventing violence.
