Lagos Red Line Rail to Transport 500,000 Daily Passengers

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State disclosed that the newly acquired 24 coaches for the Red Line rail project will significantly enhance the state's multimodal transport system, aiming to move over 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational. The Red Line, designed to support a corridor from Oyingbo to Agbado, will consist of eight-car trains, doubling the capacity of the existing Blue Line, which operates four-car trains.

The governor highlighted that the Red Line will facilitate 37 daily trips and is part of a broader multimodal transport master plan that includes road and water transport. Additionally, the ongoing Omi Eko water transport project, featuring high-capacity electric boats expected to be operational by 2027, will complement the rail services.

Sanwo-Olu also mentioned discussions to extend the rail service into Ogun State, enhancing commuter options and supporting economic growth in the region.
