Lagos State Launches Clean Energy Challenge for Schools

The Lagos Clean Energy Schools Innovation Challenge 2026 was launched by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Wednesday in Ikeja. Mr Biodun Ogunleye, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, stated that the initiative aims to foster clean-energy innovation, STEM education, and practical problem-solving among secondary school students.

He emphasized that the challenge is not merely a competition but a platform for students to identify real-world energy challenges and develop solutions. The challenge will focus on four thematic areas: solar energy and photovoltaics, energy efficiency and conservation, biogas and waste-to-energy, and wind and hybrid energy systems.

The Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasunmu, described the initiative as an investment in the future of the energy sector, encouraging critical thinking and technological embrace among young people. The competition will involve eligible Senior Secondary School One and Two students from Education Districts 1, 2, and 3, progressing from district-level to state-level competitions.
