Lagos Seals Four Properties for Wastewater Violations

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Lagos State Waste Management Agency sealed four properties in Ikotun and Ajah due to illegal discharge of untreated wastewater into public spaces. The properties targeted included two residential buildings located at 13 Oritola Street and 1 Temitop Street, as well as a public toilet and mechanical workshop along Bador Road in Ajah.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment, disclosed that the enforcement action was prompted by public complaints and subsequent investigations that verified the owners' deliberate actions of channeling untreated wastewater onto the road. This situation constituted a public nuisance.

The agency described the indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into public drains as unacceptable and warned that the crackdown on violators would continue. Individuals and organizations found to be in violation of environmental regulations will face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution, as reiterated by the Lagos State government.
