Lagos Seals Properties for Untreated Wastewater Discharge

On April 15, 2026, the Lagos State Waste Management Office (LSWMO) sealed two properties located at No. 13 Oritola Street and No. 1 Temitop Street in Ikotun due to the discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment. This enforcement action followed repeated complaints from residents and confirmed findings from investigations that indicated the properties were releasing untreated wastewater through pipes onto the road.

The situation persisted despite earlier interventions, leading to the classification of the properties as a public nuisance. Additionally, the agency shut down a public toilet and a mechanical workshop along Bador Road in Ajah for indiscriminately discharging wastewater into public drains.

The Lagos State Government reiterated the need for property owners to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, warning that individuals or organizations found in violation of environmental regulations would face appropriate sanctions, including possible prosecution.
