Lagos Seals 12 Buildings for Elevator Safety Violations

The Lagos State government has sealed more than 12 properties across the state for breaching elevator safety regulations. This enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State Safety Commission during a recent compliance exercise.

The exercise took place in early May 2026 and targeted areas including Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ikeja. Lanre Mojola, the Director of the Lagos State Safety Commission, indicated that the buildings were sealed due to failure to register elevators, lack of routine maintenance, and absence of safety inspection certificates.

The initiative is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to prevent accidents and ensure public safety in residential and commercial buildings. Property owners have been warned to comply with the state's safety guidelines or face stricter sanctions.

The commission will continue to monitor facilities across Lagos and has urged residents to report faulty elevators to avoid using lifts that show signs of malfunction, emphasizing that safety remains a top priority for the state government.
