Lagos Seals Public Toilets Over Wastewater Pollution

On Tuesday, April 21, the Lagos State Waste Management Office took enforcement action by sealing two public toilets located in Surulere and Lagos Island due to their discharge of untreated fecal matter and raw sewage into public drains, which constitutes a public nuisance and endangers human health. The first toilet, situated at 68 Jinadu Street, Surulere, was sealed for polluting the environment, while the second toilet at Marina Bridge was also sealed for similar violations.

The Lagos State government urged residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to support public health and environmental sustainability. The action has been welcomed by Lagos residents, with comments from individuals like Umeh, who described it as a good move and called for sustained inspections of public toilet facilities.

The Lagos State Waste Management Office has intensified enforcement against illegal wastewater discharges across the state, having sealed several properties in areas such as Surulere, Amuwo Odofin, Victoria Island, and Lekki for similar violations.
