Lagos Socialite Sentenced to 15 Years for Cocaine Trafficking

Funmilola Ogbuaya, a Lagos socialite, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Justice Deind Dipeolu for her role in cocaine trafficking. The Federal High Court found her guilty of conspiracy to aid and abet the illegal export of 1.595 kilograms of cocaine to Saudi Arabia.

Ogbuaya's co-conspirator, Odeyemi Omolara, known as Ariyo Olabisi, received a 25-year sentence for her involvement in the drug trafficking operation. The case dates back to February 23, 2017, when both were arraigned.

Ogbuaya initially pleaded not guilty but later opted for a no-case submission, which was dismissed by the court. The prosecution, led by NDLEA counsel Abu Ibrahim, successfully established a prima facie case against her.

The judgment was delivered on a Wednesday, with Ogbuaya's sentence set to run concurrently with Omolara's earlier imposed sentence. The court ruled that the charges against Ogbuaya included conspiracy to aid and abet the attempt to export prohibited drugs.
