Sanwo-Olu Advocates Self-Reliance for Lagos Development

On Tuesday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State delivered a lecture at the centenary anniversary of the Yoruba Tennis Club, where he identified self-reliance, continuity, partnership, and long-term planning as essential principles driving the state's development. Sanwo-Olu, a member and vice patron of the club, reflected on its 100-year history, noting its establishment in 1926 as a response to the exclusion of Nigerians from European clubs during colonial times.

He described this founding as an assertion of dignity and self-determination. Sanwo-Olu pointed out that Lagos has historically demonstrated resilience, citing examples such as its response to the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election and the withholding of its statutory allocation by the Federal Government in 2004.

He emphasized that Lagos developed a robust internally generated revenue system rather than relying on external support. The governor also stressed the importance of continuity in governance since 1999, stating that successive administrations have built upon the development plans initiated by former Governor Bola Tinubu.
