SWAN and Sports Stakeholders Honor Niyi Oyeleke

On March 3, 2026, Niyi Oyeleke, a prominent figure in sports broadcasting and former chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), passed away. A farewell event organized by SWAN took place at the media center of the National Stadium in Lagos, where sports stakeholders gathered to pay tribute to Oyeleke's enduring legacy.

Among the speakers was Paul Ogazi, the Assistant Director of Sports at NTA Lagos Network Center, who highlighted Oyeleke's passion and commitment to sports journalism. Veteran journalist Charl Anazodo noted Oyeleke's enthusiasm and determination to improve the field.

Colleagues such as Kanmi Aker and Adeola Oyeleke reflected on his mentorship and leadership qualities. SWAN chairman Joe Apu and Gafar Liame expressed their condolences, emphasizing the significant loss to the profession.

Samuel Ahmedu, President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, praised Oyeleke's thorough professionalism. The event was supported by notable figures including Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Amaju Pinnick, who acknowledged Oyeleke's contributions to sports media in Nigeria.
