Lagos Teachers Demand Enhanced School Security Measures

On Wednesday, teachers in Lagos State, through the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), called for stronger security measures in schools to ensure a safe learning environment. This appeal was made during the NUT's fourth annual lecture and award series, honoring former National President Mr. Michael Olukoya.

The event, themed “School Safety: Stakeholders’ Strategy and Inputs,” included school administrators, educators, government officials, and security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC. Comrade Hassan Akintoye, the Lagos State Chairman of the NUT, emphasized that quality education can only thrive in secure settings.

He outlined that schools should be free from insecurity, violence, and environmental hazards. Akintoye insisted that the government has the primary responsibility to protect lives and property, advocating for infrastructure improvements and technology deployment for school security.

He expressed hope that the event would lead to effective solutions for school safety, while also commending the Lagos State Government and Ecobank Development Corporation for their contributions to education and teacher welfare.
