Lagos Celebrates Herbert Macaulai's 80th Death Anniversary

The Herbert Macaulai Foundation has announced plans to celebrate the 80th death anniversary of Herbert Macaulai, a prominent Nigerian nationalist, with a series of events aimed at honoring his legacy. The Lagos State Government has endorsed this initiative, which will include a monument project led by Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

The celebration will kick off with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina on June 28, followed by a banquet dinner at the Naval Dockyard, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, attended by dignitaries and members of the diaspora. The foundation plans to unveil various events throughout the year, including art exhibitions, competitions, and a colloquium at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism in Ogba, Lagos.

The overarching theme will focus on capturing the true spirit of Nigeria as envisioned by Macaulai, emphasizing cultural pride and civic responsibility.
