Truck Overturns on Otedola Bridge, Causing Traffic Chaos

On Wednesday, a heavy-duty truck transporting two 20-foot containers overturned on Otedola Bridge, leading to massive traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident occurred when the truck, which reportedly developed a mechanical fault, obstructed traffic flow.

Recovery attempts by a private company went awry, causing the truck to overturn and its containers to spill onto the roadway, blocking a large portion of the expressway. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), represented by Director of Public Affairs Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed that the truck suffered a battery-related mechanical failure.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene to prevent further danger to motorists. LASTMA deployed a high-capacity tow truck and heavy-duty crane to facilitate the recovery operation.

The inward carriageway of the expressway was temporarily shut down, with traffic diverted to alternative routes to mitigate gridlock. After successful evacuation of the truck, normal traffic flow was gradually restored.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakar Oki emphasized the agency's commitment to ensuring smooth vehicular movement across Lagos roads.
