Lagos Launches Digital Health Innovation Platform SHIP

At the Eko Health Convention 2026, Lagos State unveiled the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP), aimed at improving health outcomes through digital innovation. Prof.

Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, emphasized that digital health's value lies in generating quality data for research and innovation. SHIP will connect patient records and health data, facilitating AI and machine learning applications.

Abayomi noted that Lagos is investing in infrastructure and human capital to advance healthcare delivery, including the proposed University of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Lagos State Medical, Industrial and Innovation Zone (LASMIIZO) in the Lekki Free Trade Zone. The initiative also includes the Lagos BioShield to enhance preparedness for infectious diseases.

Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, highlighted the need for digital transformation due to Lagos' growing population and healthcare demands, advocating for a centralized health information repository to improve resource management and trend analysis.
