Lagos Welcomes Autistic Cyclist Kanyeyachukwu for Awareness

On Wednesday, Lagos State received 16-year-old autistic cyclist Kanyeyachukwu, who arrived as part of a team participating in an endurance ride from Enugu State aimed at raising awareness for autism. Kanyeyachukwu was accompanied by his parents and members of the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation, along with a medical support team.

Mobolaji Ogunlend, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, praised Kanyeyachukwu's courage and commended his parents for their dedication. This visit coincided with World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2.

Ogunlend noted the Lagos State government's commitment to inclusivity for young people with disabilities, emphasizing that the government will continue to showcase avenues for development. Kanyeyachukwu's father, Tagbo Okek, highlighted that the ride was designed to spark meaningful conversations about autism across communities.

He also mentioned that Kanyeyachukwu won a Guinness World Record last year for unveiling the largest painted canvas in Abuja, demonstrating the capabilities of autistic individuals when provided with the right support and opportunities.
