Sanwo-Olu Announces N200M for Autism Advocacy Support

On Thursday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a N200 million support package for autism advocacy during an event marking World Autism Awareness Day 2026. This initiative is in recognition of 16-year-old autistic cyclist Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okek, who recently set a Guinness World Record by completing a long-distance cycling journey that began in Enugu on March 14. The funding includes N100 million directed to autism-focused organizations through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and an additional N100 million to support Kanyeyachukwu's foundation. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of strengthening advocacy and expanding access to care and training for caregivers of children with special needs. He highlighted the need to change perceptions of autism, showcasing it as a condition that does not limit individuals' contributions to society. Kanyeyachukwu's father, Tagbo Okek, noted the successful journey across multiple states without incidents, thanking the government for its support and safety measures.
