Lagos Commissioner Advocates for Women's Reserved Seats Bill

During the International Women's Day celebration on March 8, 2026, Lagos State Commissioner Folashade Ambrose highlighted the importance of the Reserved Seats Bill for women, emphasizing its potential to effect change in political representation. The Commissioner expressed concerns regarding the current failure to significantly impact women's participation in political parties.

The Lagos State government is committed to creating pathways for meaningful participation of women across sectors such as trade, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, and the creative economy. The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) plays a crucial role in this initiative, providing thousands of women entrepreneurs with access to finance, training, mentorship, and business launch support.

Additionally, a partnership with Sterling Bank has led to the launch of a ₦10 billion program called Lagos State Access Finance Cooperative, which offers non-collateral loans of up to ₦10 million at a 9% single-digit interest rate, with a three-month moratorium and a repayment period of three years.
