Lai Mohammed Highlights APC's 2015 Election Victory Factors

Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information and Culture, addressed the major factors that led to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari's victory in the 2015 elections during a speech at Abbe College in Cambridge, UK, on Wednesday. He traced the origins of this political transformation back to the aftermath of Nigeria's 2003 general elections, which he referred to as a "political tsunami." In 2003, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) secured 21 states, while the then newly established Alliance for Democracy (AD) won six states.

Mohammed explained that the electoral results stripped the opposition of its power structure, prompting the need for new alliances, which eventually led to the formation of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He emphasized that the APC emerged as a leading opposition force, successfully challenging the PDP's rule in the 2015 elections, marking a historic moment in Nigeria's political landscape.

He noted that the experience gained from being in opposition significantly influenced the government's approach once in power.
