Lagos State Government Enhances Flood Mitigation Efforts

The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Tokunbo Wahab, is taking proactive steps to address flooding issues in vulnerable areas as heavy rainfall approaches. During an inspection tour on Wednesday, Wahab highlighted the impact of recent construction activities in areas like Apogbon and Olowogbowo, which have exacerbated flooding conditions.

The Ministry is engaging with the federal government to find solutions and has commenced rehabilitation work in affected areas. Significant progress has been made on the System 1 drainage channel, which is critical for flood control across Ikeja, Maryland, Bariga, and Shomolu.

Wahab noted that soil displacement during construction has necessitated a review of ongoing work. He urged residents to avoid open defecation and utilize public toilets, as the state plans to expand its public toilet infrastructure, currently at 1,700 units.

Additionally, Wahab disclosed the MTN Yello Park project in Obalende, which aims to transform the area into a modern recreational hub within a 21-week timeline.
