Lagos State Launches Flood Prevention Sanitation Exercise

The Lagos State Government, led by Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has committed to achieving a flood-free state by ordering a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise. This initiative involves the swift evacuation of waste generated throughout the month and aims to clear drainage channels and roadside canals to prevent illegal dumping and reduce flood risks ahead of the intensifying rainy season.

Wahab emphasized the importance of timely waste clearance and mobilization of field teams to monitor the situation across Lagos State. The exercise includes collaboration with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), enforcement units, private sector partners, and local government councils to ensure effective waste collection from streets and drainage systems.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to residents for their participation and called for a sustained culture of cleanliness and proper waste disposal throughout the year, noting that the goal of a flood-free Lagos is within reach.
