NCDC Confirms 168 Deaths from Lassa Fever, Urges Vigilance in Controlling Spread

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 168 fatalities from Lassa fever, with reported cases reaching 906 between January 1 and September 21. The Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 18.6%, higher than the previous year.

The majority of cases are concentrated in five states, with Ondo having the highest percentage. The NCDC highlighted the risk of transmission through contaminated items and emphasized the importance of infection control in healthcare facilities.

Despite a decline in overall cases compared to the previous year, the agency continues to monitor and coordinate efforts to combat the spread of Lassa fever.
