Lassana Diarra Settles €65M Transfer Dispute with FIFA

Lassana Diarra has settled a €65 million transfer dispute with FIFA and the Belgian Football Association, concluding a lengthy legal battle. The former French international, who played for clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, initiated the case after his departure from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2014, which he deemed unfair due to a drastic salary reduction.

Diarra initially demanded €20 million, later reducing it to €10.5 million. The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled in October 2024 that FIFA's transfer rules impeded the free movement of players, leading to a comprehensive agreement with Diarra.

While FIFA does not acknowledge wrongdoing, they have settled the legal proceedings. The case has implications for FIFA's transfer regulations, prompting adjustments to ensure fairer practices in player transfers.

Diarra's situation has also inspired a class action lawsuit aimed at achieving greater fairness in transfer systems.
