LASU Professor Advocates for National Transport Prioritization

During the 122nd inaugural lecture at Lagos State University (LASU) on May 12, 2026, Professor Charl Ojima Asenim advocated for the prioritization of projects within the National Transport Survey Plan. He highlighted the necessity of reviewing the master plan for integrated transport infrastructure, which has been overdue for years.

Asenim recommended that each state develop a transport infrastructure master plan and establish state inland water transport authorities in collaboration with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to enhance safety and efficiency. He emphasized the importance of integrating multimodal transport plans across states, particularly for rail and inland waterways.

Asenim also called for improved traffic management, vehicle maintenance, and the establishment of a road transport commission at the state level. He noted that transport is crucial for economic growth and quality of life, as it affects daily commutes and the movement of goods and services.

He stressed that without effective transport systems, many Nigerians struggle to access essential supplies.
