Urgent Call for National Transport Survey Plan Implementation

Funmi Ogundar, a professor at Lagos State University (LASU), called for the urgent implementation of the National Transport Survey Plan during his 122nd inaugural lecture titled "Agbero: The Catechist Role of Informal Non-State Actors in Nigeria's Transport System Development." He warned that years of neglect have fueled inefficiencies and safety challenges in Nigeria's transport system. Ogundar stressed the importance of implementing the transport plan as a national priority to improve mobility and safety across the country.

He recommended that every state develop a transport infrastructure master plan and advocated for the establishment of an inland water transport authority to enhance safety and efficiency. He also urged the federal government to prioritize the development of an integrated multimodal national transport policy and to establish a road transport commission to regulate the sector.

Ogundar highlighted the significant contribution of the transport sector to Nigeria's economy and the need for diligent planning and enforcement of transport policies.
