LASU Named West Africa's Top Sustainable University Again
Lagos State University (LASU) has maintained its status as the Overall Best University in West Africa in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings, achieving this for the fifth consecutive year. The results were announced during the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings 2026 Results and Awards Ceremony held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
LASU ranked 493rd among 2,016 universities across 110 countries, marking a significant leap of 267 places from its previous position of 760th in 2025 and a total climb of 306 places since 2024. The ranking evaluates universities based on six areas, including Climate Change, Waste, Water, and Governance.
LASU's commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by its renewed National and Regional Coordinatorship within the UI GreenMetric network and its elevation to Co-Chairmanship for key sessions at international events for the 2026/2027 academic session. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo congratulated the LASU community, attributing the achievement to the collective efforts of management, staff, and students.
