Nigeria Wins Bid to Host $5 Billion Africa Energy Bank

Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the $5 billion Africa Energy Bank, a significant diplomatic achievement recognized during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Law and Diplomacy. This event, organized by the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) in collaboration with the International Law Association (ILA), took place in Abuja.

The course, themed "Leveraging International Diplomacy for Investment, Finance and Sustainable Development," aims to equip legal professionals with skills for negotiating beneficial foreign trade and investment agreements. Ambassador Nicholas Agbo Ella, a former Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, emphasized the importance of trust in diplomacy for national development and commended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for winning the hosting rights against competitors like Ghana and South Africa.

The Africa Energy Bank, established by the African Petroleum Producers Organization in partnership with Afreximbank, is set to begin operations in Abuja in September 2026.
