LAWMA Seals Shops Over Roadside Waste Dumping in Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed multiple shops and business premises along the Tejuosho-Ojuelegba corridor due to ongoing indiscriminate refuse dumping, which violates the state’s environmental sanitation laws. This enforcement operation occurred on Thursday and was executed by LAWMA’s Waste Investigation Surveillance and Enforcement team.

Mukaila Sanusi, LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, indicated that the action followed repeated warnings to traders who continued to undermine environmental sanitation efforts. Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, emphasized that the sealing of the affected shops will remain until traders comply with sanitation requirements.

He noted that despite educational efforts, waste was still being carelessly disposed of, necessitating enforcement actions in accordance with Lagos State environmental laws. Gbadegesin urged traders and residents to engage with their assigned Private Sector Participation operators for responsible waste disposal and to support government efforts for a cleaner environment.
