LAWMA Arrests Lagos Resident for Waste Dumping Offense

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) arrested a resident of Meiran, Lagos, for allegedly dumping waste into a drainage channel during rainfall. The arrest occurred after a viral video showed a woman removing refuse from her house and dumping it into the drainage.

This operation was conducted in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and the Mobile Police. Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that it was prompted by a tip-off from the public.

The woman, residing at No. 13 Lanre Adefiranye Street, Baale Bus Stop, was apprehended during a joint enforcement operation and has been taken to the KAI headquarters for further investigation and prosecution. Gbadegesin urged the public to report environmental violations and emphasized the importance of community involvement in protecting the environment.
