Lawyer Mathew Onoja Seeks IGP's Help in Abuja Land Dispute

Mathew Onoja, an Abuja-based lawyer representing a lessee of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has expressed concerns regarding the alleged illegal takeover of his client's property in Kado, Abuja. This property is lawfully occupied under a lease from the FCTA, and a court case regarding the land is currently pending.

Onoja reported that the property was purportedly allocated to another party under unusual circumstances. He has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for an investigation, and his client has provided evidence supporting their claim.

Despite this, an attempt was made to take over the property, leading Onoja to notify both the police and the FCTA's Development Control Unit about the ongoing dispute. He alleged that individuals arrived at the property with equipment and began destroying installations, despite the pending court proceedings.

When questioned, these individuals failed to provide any documentation for their actions and dismissed Onoja's inquiries. He emphasized that such actions undermine the rule of law and show contempt for the court's jurisdiction.
