Lawyers to Sue Nigerian Government Over Missing Residents

A group of independent legal practitioners known as Fiat Justitia announced plans to sue the Federal Government of Nigeria, the South-East Governors’ Forum, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the missing, detained, or abducted residents of the South-East. Adekoye Segun, a representative of Fiat Justitia, stated that many individuals arrested by security agencies are unaccounted for, particularly those alleged to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group expressed concern over individuals being transported to military detention centers far from the South-East and held without trial. They are preparing a coordinated legal action demanding accountability for every missing person and an explanation under oath regarding the treatment of arrested citizens.

Adekoye presented a list of 80 individuals who are missing or presumed dead and indicated that affidavits and testimonies have been compiled to support their case. The lawyers demand that those detained for four to eight years without trial be either tried or released.
