Ezekwesili Advocates Empathy in Leadership at Abuja Event

Oby Ezekwesili, founder of the Society for the Promotion of Public Good (SPPG), addressed leaders at the "Lead with Empathy" event held in Abuja on Friday. The event, organized in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation, focused on human elevation, community gender equity, and social inclusion.

Ezekwesili stressed that society suffers from exclusion and hardship, which weakens social democracy. She called for governance systems that create opportunities for women and young people from marginalized communities to participate fully in decision-making processes.

Ezekwesili noted that leadership should be built on character, competence, and accountability, urging leaders to serve their communities. Dr.

Amina Salihu, Deputy Director of the MacArthur Foundation Africa Office, presented a book that addresses issues surrounding gender equity and social inclusion. Kole Ahm Shettima, Africa Director of the MacArthur Foundation, emphasized the importance of credible leadership and mentorship in public service.

The event highlighted the need for deliberate efforts to reduce inequities and expand opportunities for underrepresented groups in society.
