Leadership Crisis in Nigerian Auctioneers Association

The Nigerian Auctioneers Association is currently facing a leadership crisis as two rival factions claim the presidency. Alhaji Musa Kurra, who describes himself as the duly elected president, asserts that he won the position during the National Delegates Conference held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on October 28, 2023.

His election followed a court order from the National Industrial Court in Bauchi, dated July 26, 2023, which mandated the association to conduct elections within three months. Kurra's faction has accused Benjamin Isibor of illegally claiming the presidency and has initiated contempt proceedings against him for usurping the office.

Kurra's statement emphasized that Isibor is not recognized by any organ of the association and that media reports quoting Isibor as president are misleading. Additionally, Kurra's faction praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's electronic auction platform for enhancing transparency in asset disposal.
