Ochonogor's Commonwealth Games Entry Rejected

Prestina Ochonogor, the national champion in women's long jump, will not participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after the event organizers rejected Nigeria's request to include her. The rejection was communicated in a letter from Chris Cohen, the Games’ Technical Delegate, stating that Ochonogor could not be added to the final entry list as she was not part of the original submission.

Nigeria had sought to enter both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro following the withdrawal of experienced jumper Ese Brume. The letter clarified that Nigeria had already made a late replacement for Brume with Usoro, and according to the rules, only one athlete could compete in the event since only one was originally entered.

Ochonogor earned her national selection by winning the women's long jump at the National Athletics Trials in June, where she achieved a leap of 6.57m at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos, but will now miss the Commonwealth Games due to these entry regulations.
