Peter Obi Advocates for Verification of Academic Credentials

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized the handling of academic credentials in Nigeria's leadership recruitment process. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, he emphasized the necessity of verifying certificates for all individuals seeking or occupying public office.

Obi's remarks followed the publication of results on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal. He stated that tolerating unverified academic qualifications could damage the foundations of Nigerian society.

Obi argued that the focus should be on standards and accountability rather than individual personalities. He warned that normalizing the lack of verification could lead to a future where professionals in critical fields lack the necessary qualifications.

Obi called for a system where truth and accountability are upheld without political bias, asserting that Nigeria must not sacrifice its future for short-term political gains. He urged Nigerians to prioritize the principles they defend over the individuals they support, emphasizing the importance of integrity in leadership.
