Nigerian House of Reps Order Paper 9 July 2026: Key Bills

The House of Representatives sat on 9 July 2026 with business spanning bill readings, committee reports, and a motion on STEM education.

Six new bills were tabled for first reading, including two executive-sponsored bills — one seeking to amend the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and another to reform the National Senior Secondary Education Commission. A bill to control open-market sales of electrical materials and another proposing a sixth alteration to the 1999 Constitution were also introduced.

Seven bills were listed for third reading, meaning they were close to final passage. These included bills to establish Federal University Wukari, an African Aviation and Aerospace University in Abuja, and a Grassland and Fodder Research Institute in Bauchi State. A bill to amend the National Sugar Development Council Act was also at third reading stage.

Four bills were scheduled for second reading, covering areas such as HIV/AIDS agency reform, artificial intelligence professional training, air force capacity, and environmental justice under the Legal Aid Act.

Committee reports were presented on child protection, older persons' rights, and a strengthened National Human Rights Commission. A motion was also listed calling on the House to boost STEM education for Nigerian children and youth.
