On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, the Nigerian House of Representatives sat to consider reversing two earlier decisions, including one that had passed a constitutional amendment to establish State Police Services. The same State Police Bill was also listed for a fresh Second Reading, meaning lawmakers were set to debate its core principles again from scratch.

First, the House considered reversing its 11 June 2026 vote that passed a constitutional amendment to establish State Police Services. The House had also constituted a 12-member Conference Committee on 9 July 2026 to harmonise decisions with the Senate on the same bill. The rescission motion cited "new facts" that required a critical review of the bill's clauses in relation to the national security structure. The motion also sought to dissolve that Conference Committee.
Second, the House considered cancelling a resolution from 9 July 2026 that had suspended the House Open Week. The rescission motion noted that invitations had already been sent to stakeholders for the Open Week scheduled from 14 to 16 July 2026, and sought to allow it to proceed.
Separately, a new Executive Bill — Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Bill 2026, numbered HB. 2797 — was listed for First Reading, followed immediately by a Second Reading of the same bill under the Order of the Day, to be led by Hon.
