Nigerian Senate Order Paper 6 May 2026: Bills, Ministers & Motions
On Wednesday, 6 May 2026, the Nigerian Senate sat to consider five new bills on first reading, screen two presidential nominees for ministerial appointment, and debate an urgent motion on reviving Nigeria's collapsed textile industry. The session also included committee reports recommending confirmation of appointments to key regulatory bodies.
The Nigerian Senate's sitting on 6 May 2026 packed a wide range of business into one day.
Five bills were listed for first reading. These included a bill to establish a National Assembly Infrastructure and Property Agency, an amendment to the NAFDAC Act, an amendment to the National Blood Service Commission Act, a bill to regulate and ensure transparency around foreign aid flowing into Nigeria, and a Social Assistance Bill aimed at providing support to vulnerable Nigerians.
The Senate also scheduled the screening and confirmation of two presidential nominees — Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye — both proposed as Ministers of the Federal Republic.
Committee reports on the agenda covered confirmation of nominees for the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
A notable motion, sponsored by Sen. Sunday Marshall Katung of Kaduna South alongside eight co-sponsors, called for urgent government action to revive Nigeria's textile industry. The motion highlighted that Nigeria once had 167 textile mills employing 500,000 people, but the sector has effectively collapsed, with over 99 percent of textile needs now met through imports.
Two bills from the House of Representatives were also listed for Senate concurrence.
