Lekki Deep Sea Port Tops Nigeria's Cargo Throughput in 2025

Lekki Deep Sea Port has recorded the highest cargo throughput in Nigeria for the year 2025, as disclosed by Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), on Wednesday. The report highlights that Lekki's performance as an import hub surpassed older ports, including Apapa Port.

Total cargo throughput across Nigerian ports rose by 24.8% to 129.3 million metric tons in 2025, with container traffic increasing by 2.1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Lekki Deep Sea Port accounted for 40.6% of the nation's total throughput, while Apapa Port handled 19.1%.

The total number of ship calls across ports increased by nearly 12.4% to 477 vessels. Import activities primarily drove trade flow, with Lekki recording N7.39 trillion in imports compared to N5.83 trillion at Tin Island Port.

The report underscores Nigeria's expanding role as a regional logistics hub.
