INEC Promises Credible 2026 Osun Governorship Election

Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assured the people of Osun State that the Commission would conduct a credible governorship election on August 15, 2026.

Speaking at the Peace Accord signing in Osogbo, he urged politicians to allow the ballot to determine the winner. Amupitan stated that INEC had completed 7 out of 9 activities in its electoral timetable and that the deployment would cover 30 local government areas, including the Modakeke Area Office, across 332 Registration Areas and 3,763 Polling Units.

He revealed that the certified Register of Voters includes 2,339,233 eligible citizens, with 322,822 newly registered voters having collected their PVCs. The collection period has been extended to July 31, 2026.

Amupitan also discussed security measures, identifying 10 local government areas as hotspots and emphasizing that INEC does not seek a particular outcome but is committed to a lawful process.
