INEC Urges Peace Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

On Thursday, during the signing of the Osun State Governorship Election Peace Accord in Osogbo, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), called on political parties in Osun State to refrain from violence and allow the ballot box to determine the outcome of the August 15 governorship election.

He stated that the Peace Accord is a moral treaty aimed at promoting democracy and peace. Prof.

Amupitan reported that INEC is operationally ready for the election, having completed seven out of nine scheduled activities. He highlighted that 2,339,233 citizens are eligible to vote and that security measures are being implemented to address reported violence.

He reassured voters regarding the security of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and emphasized that biometric verification via the BVAS is essential for accreditation. A total of 4,427 BVAS devices have been customized for the election, ensuring a robust electoral process.
