Umahi Urges Caution on Igbo Presidency Aspirations

David Umahi, the former governor of Anambra State and current Minister of Works, addressed the Southeast region, advising against the pursuit of an Igbo presidency at this time. He warned that such ambitions could jeopardize the region's political future.

Umahi spoke to journalists during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the 56-kilometer Aba-Axi-Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State. He urged the Southeast to adopt a strategic political approach to support presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Umahi highlighted the importance of building stronger alliances within the region and noted that the 2027 elections would be a crucial time for the Southeast to reciprocate the goodwill shown by the presidency. He also listed major road projects aimed at addressing long-standing complaints of neglect in the region and mentioned that the current administration inherited 2,068 ongoing infrastructure projects nationwide, valued at 13 trillion naira.

Umahi inspected various projects, including the Alaoji railway overhead bridge, and directed contractors to ensure timely completion.
