Jigawa Speaker Accused of Violating Local Government Autonomy Rules

Councillors in Garki local government council, Jigawa, have accused the Speaker of the State House Assembly, Rt. Honourable Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, of violating constitutional provisions and Supreme Court rules on local government autonomy.

The councillors allege that the Speaker illegally interfered in the local government council by forcing the council to accept back an impeached speaker, going against the constitutional decision to remove him. This interference is seen as a serious threat to democracy and a breach of Nigerian constitutional provisions.

The Nigerian constitution clearly defines the roles and powers of the three tiers of government, including local government autonomy.
