Rivers LG Chairman Accused of Assault on Aide

Ahoada West Local Government Chairman Eugen Ekpel is under scrutiny for allegedly assaulting his former media aide, Minni Ogadinma. The incident reportedly began after Ogadinma posted on social media about the poor condition of a secondary school in Odioku, prompting a visit from Ekpel.

Following the visit, Ogadinma claims that Ekpel's brother, Mondai Cheta, attacked her and her mother, resulting in injuries. Ogadinma alleges that Cheta attempted to intimidate her to protect Ekpel's reputation.

In response, Ekpel's office, through Chief Press Secretary Denni Ezeuwa, has denied the allegations, labeling them as false and malicious. Ezeuwa stated that the chairman's visit was peaceful and that Ogadinma's injuries were a result of a heated exchange, not a physical confrontation.

Human rights lawyer Cheta Nwala condemned the alleged assault, urging law enforcement to ensure justice. The situation highlights ongoing tensions and calls for accountability in local governance.
