Enugu ENSIEC Declares 90% Readiness for Elections

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has declared over 90% readiness for the local government elections set for September 26. Prof. Christian Ngwu, the Executive Chairman of ENSIEC, stated at a news briefing that final arrangements and training are being completed.

He noted that the commission has trained the trainers of ad hoc staff and is in the process of recruiting them, with training commencing shortly. Ngwu confirmed that nearly all election materials are ready, with non-sensitive materials scheduled to leave ENSIEC headquarters by September 17.

Sensitive materials will be securely stored until needed. The commission is finalizing logistics with transport unions and security arrangements with the police as the lead agency.

ENSIEC will receive the authentic voters’ register from the Independent National Electoral Commission soon. Ngwu urged residents to participate actively in the elections, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

The elections will cover 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions, with 11 political parties participating.
