INEC Prepares for Osun Governorship Election on August 15

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed its readiness for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. Wilfred Osilama Ifogah, Deputy Director of Publicity at INEC, stated in an interview that the commission has successfully implemented 11 out of the 13 activities outlined in its election timetable.

The remaining tasks include the cessation of campaigns, effective from midnight on Thursday, and the final deployment of trained ad hoc personnel. INEC has engaged with security agencies and transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), to ensure smooth logistics on election day.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has been tested and certified ready for use. Voting will occur across all 30 Local Government Areas, 332 Registration Areas, and 3,763 Polling Units in Osun, which has over 2.3 million registered voters.

More than 15,000 ad hoc personnel will be deployed for the election.
