Enugu State Implements Movement Restrictions for Elections

The Enugu State Government, along with the Enugu State Police Command, has implemented restrictions on movement across the state on Saturday, September 26, 2026, for local government elections. These elections, organized by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), will elect chairmen for 17 Local Government Councils and councillors for 260 wards.

The restrictions will be in place from 6 am to 4 pm, as stated by Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government. Exemptions include ENSIEC officials, accredited election personnel, security personnel, accredited observers, media practitioners, health workers, ambulances, and others performing essential duties.

The government has urged compliance and peaceful conduct from all stakeholders. Additionally, Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa has ordered a restriction on human and vehicular movement from 8 am to 4 pm, emphasizing that those on essential duties will not be affected.

Giwa also prohibited quasi-security outfits from election security and warned against electoral malpractices.
