Libya Bids to Host AFCON in 2028, 2032, and 2036

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has officially submitted a bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the editions in 2028, 2032, and 2036. This initiative is significant as it is the first time a North African nation has expressed its intention to compete for hosting rights for Africa's premier football tournament.

Libya aims to strengthen its football profile and position itself as a destination for major international sporting events. The bid is part of a broader strategy to develop football across the country, providing modern facilities capable of hosting elite international competitions.

Historically, Libya has participated in several editions of the AFCON but has never hosted the tournament, with the first stage occurring in 1957. The LFF expects to highlight ongoing investments in stadiums, transport, accommodation, and security infrastructure as part of its proposal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The CAF will evaluate the bids based on various criteria, including the quality of sports infrastructure and the ability to organize a successful tournament.
